Assessment and Portfolio Moved to Thursday

Both the Small World Unit Assessment and Portfolio will be due on Thursday. Tomorrow will be another day for review, peer editing, and working on your portfolio.

Enjoy this historical night.

Thank you!
Actually, now that everyone has the majority of their portfolio finished, I think peer editing will be a lot more productive.

Enjoy this historical night we will!

Yes, the only two words needed...

"THANK YOU"

And in response to your question Mr. Marti, I’m sure the first reaction of students who spent all night would be "Wow, I spent all night for nothing"; however they will realize in 5 seconds that it wasn't for nothing. Students that will choose to cram it in on Wednesday night will experience the same thing as we did, while it gives the students who did the work at the original expected time a sense of relief and a chance to edit and fix any necessary and desired changes.

Overall, this change is absolutely positive; I don't think anyone would have a real problem and complaint against the movement of the due date.

This seems to be a historical night in both the math world and the political world. I have to say this is a relief after being distracted tonight by the elections. I found myself less concerned with the population of the world and more concerned with who will be in charge of the population.

This was very generous of you and I think the whole class including myself will take our appreciation for this and transmit it into a better attitude and a strong work-ethic toward our portfolios.

I'm pretty happy about this, I was just coming in to post about it, too.

I was actually under the impression the portfolio due date would not be moved but instead still be Wednesday, figured you'd need that time to look over them.

I'm still not done, but the extra day, I feel, will help me do a much better job of actually showing what you want to see in these portfolios. Thanks very much.

Mr. Marti,

I am very upset that you changed the day of our unit assessment and portfolio to Thursday. I didn't get any sleep last night because I was perfecting my work and making sure that I was prepared for the assesment. I was appalled when I found out in class that I had an extra day to work, and had spent my night stressing and worrying that I wouldn't finishing in time. I ask that in the future you don't make this mistake again.

eh. i just hate that we speant about 6 weeks on slope and 1 on e and other NEW information

To Upset:

You have a very valid reason for being upset about the decision to move the test date. I apologize. That was a major concern of mine regarding moving the date.

I, personally, hate it when decisions are made and then at the last minute, changes occur. This occasion of changing the testing date is not something that I normally do.

However, I was informed last yesterday afternoon that grade entry was moved from Thursday to Friday. Grade entry was the major reason the test was originally scheduled for Wednesday. Tuesday was such a historical day that under normal circumstances I would not have a major assignment the following date. Since the reason why I scheduled the test for Wed changed, I decided to change the date of the test.

Again, I am sorry for the miscommunication in changing the date of the test. I hope that you accept my apology.

To Slope:

It might have felt like we spent 6 weeks on slope. But we actually examined slope in a very different way than we traditionally do.

We introduced the concept of derivatives, which IS slope.

We developed techniques to calculate derivatives, eventually establishing that the derivative of an equation at a specific point IS the slope of the tangent line at that specific point.

i was supposed to go to the obama rally last night. thanks to this change in date, i missed out on one of the most important moments of history. i am not blaming anybody, but i hope the school and staff figure out how to communicate better so that this does not happen again.

I feel the people that were upset about the change need to really see this in another perspective. Now they will have an extra day to study, revise what was probably not their best portfolio, and if they were already ready, then they could rest and need not worry.

It wasn't Mr. Marti's fault, he DID ask, and majority of us thought it would be a great alternative. Nobody missed out on one of the most important moments of history since we all lived through it, and the blog is a great method of communication.

I, as I believe more than 90% of the students taking pre-calc with Mr. Marti, are extremely grateful for his decision.....and once again,
THANK YOU!

P.S. I felt the same way about slope and e. =/
